Try These 4 Indian Road Routes & You’ll Have The Best Road Trips Ever

Traveling is an art and you need time to master it. To plan all the elements of a trip and ascertain that they do not backfire or fail, you must research thoroughly and be ready for the worst.

But hold up, we’re living in the 21st century and manmade miracles have made it easier to not be SO anxious when it comes to traveling. As they say, it takes two to tango. And, in this case, the two parties include you and other people who want you to have the best time while vacationing.

We’re talking about people and construction companies who construct highly-efficient roads, highways and expressways which make your car or bike journey smoothest. On these routes, other businesses contribute strategically by building restaurants and midways that help you eat and freshen up during the journey.

If you think about it, these businesses and your need or desire to travel form the perfect combination. You get to go where you want to and they benefit financially from your wanderlust.

In this blog, we’ll be taking you through some of the most famous highways that have made a difference in traveling. They are safe to trod your car on and they connect you to the city you want to arrive at to the city you depart from quite seamlessly.

Let’s take the high road by skimming through some of these roads, highways, and expressways.

1. Mumbai To Pune Expressway

This expressway is also known by the name of Yashwantrao Chavan Expressway and measures up to a distance of 94 kilometers. As you can tell, this expressway connects Mumbai and Pune. But for people craving an easy weekend getaway, they can travel to hill stations like Panvel, Khandala and Lonavala as well. This expressway is India's first six-lane concrete, high-speed access-controlled tolled expressway.

This expressway debuted in 2002 and made it delightfully easier for people to travel back and forth from two cities and beyond. Just a quick Google search will tell you how aesthetically pleasing this expressway is. Don’t worry about getting bored while driving here. Mother Nature with her beauty will keep you company for the two to three hours that you will have to drive to reach your respective destination.

2. Delhi to Agra via Mathura on Yamuna Expressway

How about you go to Agra to visit Taj Mahal next weekend? It’s easy to go now, all thanks to Yamuna Expressway that measures to a total of 165 kilometers. Whereas driving on this expressway only takes two hours, you must add in two more hours to reach this expressway from Delhi itself as that distance is 70 kms.

For people who drive at a responsible and consistent speed, this opportunity to drive will be a dream come true for them. They will also be able to explore a city for plenty of time.

3. Delhi to Shimla

Okay, wasn’t expecting this route? Neither were we. When planning a trip to Shimla, one feels like this city is on another part of the globe but this is not so true anymore.

To travel this route without any qualms, take the Grand Trunk Road from the capital of India and drive away for no more than seven hours. On the way, you will witness strong yet pleasant gusts of wind on your face and divinely white clouds being poked by the sheer height of Himalayas.

This particular route stretches for 342 kms and we have been tipped that you will not go hungry while traveling on it.

Some insanely adventurous people also take bike rides on this route. You can too if you know someone who will drive without wanting a bathroom break every two minutes!

4. Manali to Leh Highway

Spanning a daunting distance of 479 kms, the Leh Manali Highway will take travelers two whole days to reach their destination.

If we simplify things, it’s only going to be 48 hours until you reach either city. While immaculate driving skills and a gregarious group is needed to be on the best Indian road route, what one must also throw in the mix is commitment. You should have plenty of courage to drive all this distance.

This highway is 3 to 4 km above sea level and has known to be remarkably safe. One must note that the road stays open until mid of October. You can confirm more when you start planning a trip.

With proudly vast asphalt, a sky dominated by white and bright clouds and gigantic hills that put you in a trance, we are sure that two days will go by in a jiffy! You will have satiated the wanderlust in you and done something so adventurous that it will make a good travel story for the years to come.

Some pointers that we would like you to keep in mind when embarking on this journey is that this highway is notorious for uncertain weather and extreme cold. We keep repeating how you should be prepared to travel on routes that seem to stretch on forever. However, for you to take this route, you must be highly-prepared by keeping extra fuel handy. Check the road conditions persistently before you travel. And, if you easily get car-sick, then, maybe this route is not for you.

However, if you ARE feeling like you must do something extra-ordinary, use this route by all means because it will make you feel like you are the only person/people in the world and also close to Heaven.

Another fun fact about this highway that should intrigue you more than you already are is that since Ladakh is situated between China and Pakistan, it is the Indian Army that is responsible for the maintenance of the road! Oh, how much they do for their country and its people.

This was a short guide that went over some of the most convenient roads, expressways and highways of India. They have been made by humans for humans. While 2020 may be looking a little bleak and unfortunate, man-made masterpieces like these make us feel that we have not entirely failed as a species. So, cheers to the traveler in us and to these famous road routes of India
